\nLast week I had a pleasure of visiting London. The reason for this was Steven Wilson’s Hand. Cannot. Erase. concert – I’m going to write a separate post about the show itself. I was also lucky enough to find a few free hours to walk around with a camera so, traditionally, I post here some photos from my another expedition, after the one in Berlin<\/a>. During the whole trip I had my camera on BlackRapid Sport Slim strap. Every time I buy a gadget that doesn’t directly affect the quality of my photos, yet is quite expensive, I feel a bit guilty.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, it’s good to take care of your comfort, and I’ve had enough of the default neck strap. I fact, I was so sick of it, that it’s been detached from my camera for the past few months. You can be comfortable using strapless camera on a 2-hours photoshoot, but if you’re going to walk a long distance, you’ll have to find something more convenient. <\/p>\n

To meet the needs of photographers, the BlackRapid company introduced the Sport strap, and it’s slimmer edition Sport Slim – both available for both right- and left-handed people, which is really nice. Now let’s take a moment to talk about the quality of the product, which is just amazing. Each element – synthetic straps, the wider part profiled to fit your arm, all of the metal clamps, and the adapter attaching the strap to the stand – is on the highest quality level. I was walking around with Canonem 6d + 50mm f1.2 L for half day, and I didn’t feel it’s weight at all. The strap is very comfortable, excellently profiled, and it allows unrestricted movements. The clamping system is very solid and, despite my initial fears, it didn’t loosen at all. Like any other solution though, this also has it’s flaws. I’ll mention 2 of the most important ones. First, you attach the strap to stand thread, so if you want to attach a body to the stand, you have to unscrew the strap and attach the muont, which in the long run can be pretty annoying. Luckily, my manfrotto allows me to attach the strap to the quick release plate, using a karabiner included in the strap accesories. However, not every stand has a quick release plate. The second flaw is the price. For $82 you can buy a decent big polarizing filter. But I think investing such money just once for your own comfort makes sense anyway, and generally speaking, the product is worth it’s price.
