Hand. Cannot. Erase. part.II Visuals

Hello fellow Blogreaders!
Today a post that many of you have been waiting for. There was a little preview of it in my previous post, but only now, after the show in Łódź, I can officially show you what I’ve been working on for the last six months. All Steven Wilson’s fans know that his concerts are masterpieces, but on his current tour there is not only fantastic music, but also a great visual show. There is a 11x4m led screen behind the stage, helping the fans get into the story Wilson tells – it’s incredible! The tour began some time ago, and you can already find many concerts reviews, where the visualisations are warmly described. They are always just mentioned though, I’ll try to describe them with more details. My description will be based on the yesterday’s show in Łódź, hope you enjoy it.

The show begins with a few minutes long intro that changes seamlessly into ‘First Regret’ and ‘3 Years Older’. Directing and editing: Lasse Hoile, cinematography: Krzysztof Czechowski. Cast: Karolina Grzybowska, and in a couple of scenes me – in my role of a lifetime… I played an unloved boyfriend 🙂 All the pictures were taken in Poznań. Residential districts consisting of large blocks of flats were proudly represented by os. Orła Białego and os. Oświecenia. The tram scenes were taken in Pestka line, the dark station is the last stop on os. Sobieskiego. Other shots were taken near the Old Market Square, Plac Wolności, Marcinkowski Park and the Main Station.

Butterfly Effect

Hello fellow Blogreaders!
Today I’m going to show you a project that I started in August 2014, and finished just now, in March 2015. A part of the photos was taken during my previous meeting with Magda Zawada. Then I got the idea of putting these few experimental frames together into a short story, and this is how ‘the butterfly effect’ was born. We were missing three frames to complete the story, and we took them a few days ago in a completely different location. The most interesting aspect of the whole undertaking is its minimalism. The model was covered with a cheap plastic film, and then I reached the cocoon effect by a creative use of the liquify filter, which has been in Photoshop since forever. The lighting was one small system flash with radio trigger on a light stand, placed between the model and the background. You can see the whole postproduction process on the video.
Hope you enjoy it.

Silence, darkness. Delicate air movement, and rough sound wave breaking the biting cold of the cave…

Winter Tales

Hello fellow Blogreaders!
After more than 2 years I’m back with new energy for taking fairy-tale-like photos in Winter. Even though there wasn’t much snow this year, the January nature did a great job anyway. The subject is a fusion of my Muse’s old dream about ‘photos in a ball gown’ and my liking for fairy-tale-like atmosphere. The whole stylisation (the dress + the wig) is from Atelier Kulisy. The model was mentioned before, reliable and always wonderful Magdalena Witczak, and the stage for our fairy tale was Wielkopolska National Park. I have an impression that I’ve started the outdoor season so early before – we took these pictures 8th of January in about 5 Celsius degrees, in a piercing cold wind. From a technical point of view it’s worth mentioning that all of the photos were made in a natural light, without a reflector, and the brilliant bokeh is down to my favourite lens Canon 50mm f1.2 L.

Hope you enjoy it.

Hand. Cannot. Erase. part.I

Hello fellow Blogreaders!
This is the first post concerning my newest project, one of the biggest projects I’ve ever realized. Since August 2014 I’ve been hard working as a part of a team responsible for the visual side of the new Steven Wilson’s solo album ‘Hand. Cannot. Erase.’. But first, a few words of inroduction. The album was inspired by a real history of a young woman named Joyce Carol Vincent, who, despite living a perfectly normal life, having social relations and a steady job, by her own choice decides to break off contacts with everyone. As a result of doing so, for 3 years nobody noticed that she died from asthma attack, left alone in her apartment…

Hiding Places vol.I

Hello, fellow Blogreaders!
It’s been a very busy time for me recently, I will try to publish the most interesting of the photos (and videos!) I took during the past few quiet months. The most important news I’d like to share with you though is the beginning of my new personal project – after Sleepieng Maids (2012) and 365 (2013) – it’s high time to move on with a next one, dated to 2014. It’s going to be a series of short stories, and they’re all going to be about women. Below you can see the first one of them, the model was my most important, personal Muse. I visited this attic for the first time a year before taking these pictures. It had something magical and mysterious in it, it looked like a perfect hiding place. I knew I had to make use of this place, and it’s potential. One Summer evening my Muse and I went there armed with a honey yellow fabric and a bouquet of dried flowers, and with a very loose idea of what kind of photos we wanted. This is where it led us…
